How to spot genuine Silver Jewellery?

We all enjoy wearing jewellery and buying beautiful gifts for loved ones, but how can we spot if the silver is genuine, or just a cheap metal? In the past, the “.925” stamp on the inside of a ring or back of a pendant would be the guarantee that your jewellery item was genuine. Unfortunately, today, jewellery is mass-produced in many factories, and the .925 stamp now means nothing when it’s so easy for any costume jewellery maker to add.

How can you spot real silver jewellery so you can be assured that the gift you are buying is genuine and that is will last a lifetime? The answer is to check for a hallmark, and to also do your research on the specific hallmarked jewellery that you are interested in purchasing.

What Is a Silver Hallmark?

An item of jewellery that is sold commercially in the UK should be marked with a hallmark. This indicates that it’s been made by a silversmith and crated by a legitimate jewellery manufacturer. This silver hallmark is a stamp on an item of jewellery that is unique to the manufacturer or silversmith who made it. It’s not something that’s created at random. This hallmark must previously be registered and licensed in the UK. This way, you can check the hallmark on the back of a piece to see if it’s not only genuine silver, but made by a reputable maker.

The silver mark is added to a jewellery piece with a hammer and a punch. This embeds a small “icon” or “image” or “initials” into the piece. A hallmark is unique to each silversmith or manufacturer, and will never match up with another maker. A hallmark can involve time and expense on the part of the jewellery maker, so it’s unlikely that you’ll see a counterfeit piece with a hallmark on it. And if you do, you can search for that hallmark to see if it’s legit.

Why Should I Check for a Hallmark?

Silver jewellery can be expensive, and the last thing you want is to buy cheap nickel costume jewellery that’s going to tarnish and irritate your skin. Unless you’re in a jewellery store where you can weigh your silver item in your hands (silver is heavier than cheap metals), you won’t be able to tell if it’s genuine through an online photograph. When you search online to buy silver jewellery or real silver jewellery, you want to buy from a reputable jewellery maker.

And there is also the benefit that when you have broken jewellery, you want to know that it can be repaired at your local jewellery store. Most jewellers won’t even attempt to fix nickel, aluminium, chrome, copper, or silver-plated jewellery. But genuine .925 silver can easily be repaired. When your jeweller examines your damaged piece, they’ll be pleased to see it stamped with that silver hallmark, making them feel confident they can easily fix your jewellery.

Now that you understand that hallmarked silver jewellery is a guarantee of quality and of genuine silver, you can feel more confident in purchasing your next item of beautiful silver jewellery.

A child love

gift

Mama I love you.
Maman je t’aime
Te amo mamá

Is there a word, a sentence to express my love?
Love, infinity, feeling, senses, admiration, just for you
Hospital, bed, midwife, crying and my anticipated arrival.
A piercing sound, laughing, joy despite your pain.

My feeder, cleaner, raiser, doctor, teacher.
My cook, waitress, you excel with every dish.
My spoiler, defender, accuser, you are my judge and my jury.
My chauffer, my tour guide and travel companion.
You are my everything and my star.

No one choses a family to be born into.
No one choses to be born from a single mum or adopted.
No one choses a mum to be born from.
No one choses a street or a house to be born into.
It Is always a mystery where we are born.

No one choses to be born black, yellow, or white.
No one choses to be born into a poor or rich family.
No one choses to be born in Hollywood or a ghetto.
Each of us lives with the memory of a childhood.
But never to deny who we are or forget our upbringing.

You made me who I am, the good, the bad, the unknown of me is no longer your responsibility.
Take a big breath and do not look back, your pain was worth it.
I am flying without your protective wings,
Your job as a mother was done with flying colours.

Thank you, mama, there is nothing, just nothing in this world to return the favour.
My love for you may not be enough.
I leave this letter tinted with my tears expressing my love for you.

A call to all handmade jewellers

Covid-19, a stop to your activity or a new and fresh start?
Whatever Covid-19 is, if it is here to stay or not, as a jeweller, it should not impact on your creativity and activity. Your creativity and willingness to carry on despite the adversity in the world today should be commended. We are all hoping that the British consumer will soon turn to small local businesses and arts.
I am hoping that in the near future, the public will start looking for talented and creative craft businesses here in the UK.
Now that we are out of the European Union, it is too early to know if this is a bad thing or good thing. Only time will tell, but for the time being, we can only make sure that we do our ultimate best to satisfy the curiosity of the British public and draw them to us. We may still compete with other nations on good quality and affordability, but we still have a population which is learning to look around and appreciate what small businesses such as handmade jewellery, and the craft industry offers. So, I just want to say that the race is long but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Women Women Women are you in control of your look? Women are gracious and fragile, so getting the right outfit is essential.
Can you regain your beauty with a little touch of silverware? I used to love the high street shops. But buying from the high street came with the risk of seeing someone else wearing the same dress, jewellery or shoes. It is embarrassing when that happens. Especially when you go to special events such as weddings. birthdays or just getting out for a good time with friends.
I was addicted to shopping on the high street until I found myself staring at someone who was wearing the same earrings as I was wearing. The week before, I went shopping for my friend’s wedding. I was very proud and happy to have such beautiful earrings. They were not cheap, around £52. I said to myself that it was a bit expensive so the chance of seeing someone else wearing the same earing at the same venue was zero to none.
Big mistake, in fact as I was parking my car, I saw a lady with the same earrings entering the reception room. They were so distinctive and unusual that it was not a surprise that people were also staring at her. Luckily for me I had just arrived and wasn’t seen yet. So, I was able to remove my earrings. I spent the entire evening with no earrings
I decided that I would make my own jewellery and never again wear anything from the high street. It is very common to have people wearing the same outfit. But that fateful day, I decided not to be a victim again. I do not want to strip myself of my fine garments because someone else has chosen to buy the same ring or bracelet.
My designs are not the conventional high street designs and material. My jewellery is created by hand and made with basic tools.
I use different materials and simple designs to create a piece of jewellery. Everything is manually made with no machines involved. My designs are rustic almost artisanal which makes them unique.

The Benefits of Wearing Silver Jewellery

Jewellery is deeply entrenched in the human culture since the early ages humanity has adorned precious stones and jewels. Silver has been one of the metals humankind has been working with since 4000 B.C. Today it is the most coveted base for jewellery on the market.
This isn’t without reason; there are many advantages to wearing silver jewellery. Firstly, it is a very light material so wearing it doesn’t wear you down. Furthermore, silver jewellery looks well with pretty much any outfit combination and any skin tone which makes it appeal to everyone. In addition to this, silver provides a much more viable option than gold. It is compatible with almost any precious stones and costs much less than gold, while arguably looking much better than gold as well. There is another benefit of silver which may seem very unusual but has a documented history; it is the benefit it has on the wearer’s health.

Silver is, and has been, used throughout various cultures in history for its antimicrobial nature. Meaning that it has been used for centuries for purposes such as sterilization, bacteria elimination, in the case of a fungus. It helps protect you against flu and other diseases by ionizing the oxygen present inside the bacteria. This causes havoc in the bacteria, eventually killing them.

Furthermore, silver is a great agent to identify toxicity, a person wearing silver jewellery will be able to determine if they’re in the presence of any toxic materials. Due to specific chemical properties, silver changes color when in the presence of toxicity, the change in color will alert the wearer to a potential toxic threat.
It also has a whole host of other help benefits, due to its metallic nature and the conductive field surrounding silver. The conductive field notably helps regulate blood flow and body temperature, but that’s not all it also plays a crucial role in warding off any harmful electromagnetic radiations. These electromagnetic radiations are emitted by phones and computers as well, which most people use almost all the time. The stimulation of blood flow reportedly has led to people feeling less distracted and more focused as well, improving one’s overall mood. Moreover, silver helps keep body vessels elastic, which allows it to stimulate and strengthen skin repair and maintenance as well.
Silver also plays a crucial role in helping one sleep, the stimulation of blood flow and body temperature successfully help people relax better and fall asleep easier. In addition to this, wearing silver has been reported by medical professionals as being able to alleviate the pain of arthritis. It’s ability to keep blood vessels elastic enables it to stimulate bone formation and healing.

The health benefits of silver seem enough reason to buy them. However, it is imperative that anyone allergic to silver does not wear silver jewellery. Wearing silver while allergic may lead to a severe rash or discoloration. For those who are not allergic, the benefits of silver are there to reap

Is it appropriate to wear jewellery at a young age

portrait of a beautiful fashion little girl

Is It good or bad to let your little girl wear silver or gold jewellery?
I do not advocate encouraging young girls below the age of 16 to wear jewellery for the following reasons:
It makes them look older which, can lead to wrong ideas.
They are not mature enough to look after the jewellery and can be a targeted by thieves.
They may think that without jewellery they are not beautiful or well dressed.
They may want to steal jewellery to impress their friends.
Although I am not keen to support the idea of young girls wearing precious metal jewellery every day I do not see any problems in allowing young girls to wear precious metal jewellery for special occasions only.
Do you agree?

Women are never too old to wear handmade jewellery

When people reach a certain age, they start asking themselves questions concerning fashion and jewellery. Am I too old to wear this? Am I too old to wear handmade jewellery? Of course not. Assuming that fashion has an expiry date or you are too old to look good is wrong. Youth is the gateway of fashion, but that does not mean it should end at a certain age. Is he wearing it?

When you look at your boyfriend, your fiancé, your husband, what do you see? What do you notice about him?
We usually just see our partners casually dressed, or putting on the same old suit, and we get used to it. A nice watch here, a good tie there, but we can’t put our finger on what’s missing to make them look truly special.
If your partner looks nice, dresses well, and wears a pleasant aftershave, it’s easy to think that’s good enough. When relaxing at home or out on a date, you can appreciate that he looks fine. But is something missing anyway?
When this thought occurred to me about my own husband, I spent weeks trying to discover the answer, but I couldn’t. Eventually, I gave up and forgot about it—until one day, while I was travelling in Italy on vacation, the lightbulb went off. I spotted a man on the street and couldn’t look away from his wrist. After a minute, the gentleman noticed my fixation and stepped over to show me his beautiful bracelet. “It’s a gift from my wife,” he explained, then he showed me the matching necklace: a gorgeous chain, not too thin or too thick, with a silver pendant dangling from it. I asked him where the set had come from, and he told me that his wife had had it custom-made for him.
At that moment, I realised what my husband’s look had been missing. I had been wishing for something that would enhance his appearance, something elegant but masculine. I was fascinated with the idea of giving him jewelry—I just had to create something special for my own husband, something I would be proud to see him wear all our lives.

Have you ever been in this situation

Have you ever walked into a jewelry store and everywhere you looked you saw jewelry that’s just perfect for you? Yeah, me neither. Even though you’re unique and have your own personal aesthetic, jewelry retailers think that customizing means just offering you an initial or a birthstone. That means your jewelry gets to be like a million others, and the fashion faux pas abound.
You know these situations all too well. You’re dazzling the crowd at a party with the beautiful dress you spent two months looking for and shelled out big bucks to own. You look amazing—but then in waltzes that one girl who always gets under your skin. What do you know, she manages to ruin the day again: she’s wearing the exact same outfit as you. Since sinking through the floor isn’t an option, you have to decide between pretending she doesn’t exist or scurrying for the nearest exit. Don’t make eye contact and maybe no one else will notice before you escape.
Our jewelry choices aren’t immune to this problem, either. No matter how much we spend, everyone seems to be getting the same sorts of things. Uniqueness is out the door and mass production is in.
I’m tired of blending in with the crowd—that’s why I’m ditching the glittering redundancy of commercialized jewelry and delighting in handmade jewelry!
Now, I get to smile when people come up to me and exclaim, “Where did you buy that gorgeous bracelet?” Designing your own jewelry is about more than the (admittedly wonderful) thirty-five seconds of fame when you tell people you’re the creator. It’s the chance for your personality to shine and for you to own something that is exclusively for you.
Do you want jewelry that’s distinctive, represents who you are, and looks amazing? Now you too can own a piece of jewelry that’s uniquely you!
